Finding the right Surrey Cover Band can be tricky - personality is everything!
So we thought it would be a bit of fun to get to know the 4 To The Floor guys and ask them a little bit about their music history. So for the month of August, we give to you...4TTF's lead singer, Shannon Bedford.
Shannon, tell us about yourself...
I'm a 23 year old vocalist based in Surrey, but I'm really a midlands girl. I ended up in Surrey because I did a vocal performance degree at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. I now perform with 4TTF, The ACM Gospel Choir and have done a few backing vocal sessions for the likes of Pixie Lott and Maverick Sabre. I also teach some very lovely students how to sing and use their voices.
What song reminds you of your childhood?
Well, my Mum loves to clean (she will tell you she doesn't, but I know the Hoover was out at least twice a day!) so when I was younger, I was drafted in to help and we always cleaned to 'Come on Over' by Shania Twain, so any song from that album! My Dad is really into his ska and 80s stuff, so 'It Must Be Love' by Madness is also one that takes me back.
What was the first CD you bought?
I remember going into Woolworth's with my birthday money and buying 'The Last Dance' by Steps and 'Up!' by Shania Twain.
What was the first band you saw perform live?
I went to see Steps for my 9th birthday with my Mum and her friend. I didn't realise that you had support acts, so when I saw another band come on with 6 members, I thought it was a Steps tribute act! Then the real Steps came on and I cried with joy for the whole show and standing on my chair as I was too small to see the stage!
Do you have any music guilty pleasures?
As a teenage girl, I really wanted to be Avril Lavigne, so I am a massive fan of her first two albums. Shhhh!
What was the first gig you ever played?
Well, I don't know if you can count playing Jesus in the Easter play in Primary School, but my first gig out of school was when I was 16 years old. I was in a 16-piece Soul Band called Soul-Patrol. We went on tour to Spain and played a gig on a beach for all the sun bathers - it was so hot...black was not a good colour to be wearing that day!
What was the best gig you ever played?
When I was 20, I sung at an awards ceremony at The Royal Albert Hall and have been lucky enough to be back there every year. I went with 5 of my friends and we got ice-creams on the way down to the gig. I felt like a rock star on that stage with the rest of The ACM Gospel Choir - I think that was my first professional gig.
What is your favourite song to sing in your function playlist?
I love singing Treasure by Bruno Mars - it's such a happy song!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a bit of a TV addict! I love watching films and period dramas...DOWNTON ABBEY! I love going to see my friends and I am attempting to be good at running, but sadly I still walk faster than I run!
